How can I relieve the lower back pain that I woke up with this morning?

Rystah asked:

This morning I woke up with a sharp pain in my lower back. I’m not sure where it came from but I work at Target in the backroom so I’m guessing it could be from heavy lifting, or sleeping wrong. Anyone know any quick relief techniques? I have to mow the lawn today and go to work later.

I’m only 18 too.

put icy/hot on your back. or use a heating pad but when your done with the heating pad put a cool rag on it, never end with hot, always end with cold cause you would have more pain in the long run. whats nice is you can were icy/hot anywhere and no one knows!

Could be your kidneys. Drink lots of water and some cranberry juice. If its your back then, there’s not much that will help except time - or a chiropractor.

One of the best things to do is to stretch out the muscles.

Lay on your back on the floor. Slowly raise your leg until your knee is on your chest. Do one leg at a time and hold for 5 - 10 seconds. Repeat a few times. This will help stretch out any of the back muscles that may have tightened up.
You can also stand with feet together and try to touch your forehead to your knees. Hold this for 5 seconds and repeat.

You should also report the injury to your supervisor just in case you need to see a doctor.
If the pain lasts more than a few days go see the doctor.

Best thing you can do for a muscle strain (which I suspect it is), is to use ice & advil/motrin for inflammation & pain. Taking tylenol might help the pain, but it won’t help with the swelling.

If you report to your supervisor that you feel this way, I would hope they assign you alternate duties for a few days to avoid further damage.

Usually things like this resolve with a little bit of rest, but there is a fine line between continuing to be active and re-injuring yourself.

Be sensible, and take it easy.

    EDIT:

If you have already reported this to a supervisor at work, they may want you to have it checked out by their worker’s comp physician / clinic. If you haven’t done so yet, that is the reason I suggested you do so.

some lower body stretches and some warm heat from a pad. Yeah def. from heavy lifting. Dont do anymore than you can do. Try going to a few sessions from the chiropracter or get accupuncture.
